NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Danielle Griffin and sophomore Clark Ricciardelli of the Amherst College track & field teams have been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Americans for their outstanding performances at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex, as recently announced by the organization.
To earn USTFCCCA All-American honors, student-athletes must finish inside the top-8 in their respective individual events or relays at the national meet.
The second All-America nod of her career, Griffin earned the noteworthy distinction following a stellar performance in the 800 meter event at the NCAAs. The No. 12 seed (2:12.03) entering the weekend, Griffin cut three seconds off her seed time in the prelims to cross the finish line in 2:08.98 and set a new Amherst program record before posting a 2:10.30 mark in the finals a day later to earn fifth overall in the 22-harrier event.
His first track & field All-American honor, and second overall, Ricciardelli garners the national accolade following a breakout sophomore season in which he posted a 30:14.33 mark in the 10,000 meter run to qualify for the NCAA Championships as the No. 11 seed. Running a smart race in the humid conditions, Ricciardelli utilized a fantastic second half to clock a time of 31:06.21 and place eighth overall.
