Griffin Earns Top-5 Performance, Gayer Impresses at the NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Danielle Griffin '18 registered an All-American performance in the 800 meter run and Sarah Gayer '21 finished her rookie campaign in impressive fashion as the duo wrapped up the Amherst College women's track & field season at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The No. 14 seed entering the weekend, first-year Sarah Gayer closed out the season with a 21st place finish in the 1500 meter run. Running the first 750 meters in 2:13.395, Gayer clocked a time 5:03.17 at the national meet in an impressive rookie debut.  
  • Taking to the track in the 800 meter event as the No. 12 seed (2:12.03) on Friday, Danielle Griffin '18 crossed the finish line in 2:08.98 in the preliminaries to break the school record earn fifth in the 22 harrier race and a spot in the finals.
  • In the 800 meter finals heat a day later, Griffin clocked a time of 2:10.30 to place fifth overall in Division III.
