Five Mammoths to Represent Track & Field at the NCAA Championships


AMHERST, Mass. – Each registering qualifying marks throughout the regular season, five runners are set to represent the Amherst College men's and women's track & field teams at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Thursday, May 24 to Saturday,  May 26 at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

On the women's side, Danielle Griffin '18 and Sarah Gayer '21 each earned the right to compete at the national meet, while Kristian Sogaard '19, Cosmo Brossy '19 and Clark Ricciardelli '20 posted qualifying times for the men's team.

For each individual men's event, the top-20 declared student- athletes were accepted into the national competition, while the top-22 female student-athletes in each individual event qualify for NCAA's.

Clinching an NCAA qualifying mark at the NESCAC Championships on April 28, Griffin enters the weekend as the No. 12 seed in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:12.03. Gayer will hit the track for the 1500 meter event, capturing the No. 14 seed after posting a time of 4:32.61 at the MIT Last Chance meet on May 17.

With a 1:50.95 mark in the 800 meter run at the NESCAC Championships on April 28, Sogaard secured the No. 7 seed in the event, while Brossy's  time of 14:33.14 in the 5,000 meter run (NEICAAA Championships, May 11) garners him the No. 17 seed.

Ricciardelli rounds out the Mammoths harriers, with the sophomore logging a time of 30:14.33 in the 10,000 meter race at the NEICAAA Championships to enter NCAA Championship action as the race's No. 11 seed.
