Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season at the MIT Final Qualifier

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing at Henry G. Steinbrenner Stadium and Roberts Field on the campus of MIT Thursday, three individuals and one relay squad from the Amherst College women's & men's track & field teams had their final chance to post NCAA Championships qualifying marks.

The three-day 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Thursday, May 24 to Saturday, May 26 at the SPIRE Institute in La Crosse, Wisc.


  • Competing in the 1500 meter race, Sarah Gayer '21 crossed the finish line in 4:32.61 to earn fifth place. The time is the Mammoths' top mark of the spring in the event and secured Gayer the 22nd best time in all of Division III.
  • In the 100 meter hurdles prelims, Ella Rossa '21 logged a time of 15.19 seconds to set a new program record in the event.
  • Kristin Ratliff '20 claimed a time of 11:20.88 in the 3000 meter steeple chase to take second overall. Her season best mark of 11:08.07 in the event, captured at the NESCAC Championships, ranks Ratliff as the No. 39 seed in the nation.


  • Taking to the track in the 4x400 relay, the quartet of Vernon Espinoza '19, Ralph Skinner '20, Kristian Sogaard '19 and Harrison Haigood '18 combined to clock a time of 3:15.57 to secure their top mark of the season (23rd best time in the nation) and place third overall.
