NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Danielle Griffin and junior Kristian Sogaard of the Amherst College track & field teams have been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Americans for their stellar performances at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Birmingham, Alabama, as announced by the organization Monday.
To earn All-American honors, student-athletes must finish inside the top-8 in their respective individual events or relays at the national meet.
Both Griffin and Sogaard land the notable accolade for their accomplishments in the 800 meter run, with Griffin clocking a 2:12.84 mark in the finals en route to breaking the Amherst school record and earning sixth overall to become the first Amherst women's harrier to break the top-8 in the event in program history.
Sogaard clinched the honor following a 1:52.43 mark in the preliminaries to reach the finals on day one of competition. In the finals, the Ridgefield, Conn. native crossed the finish line in 1:555.18 to finish as the seventh fastest runner in Division III. This is Sogaard's second All-America nod after earning the distinction in the 800 meter run during the 2017 outdoor season.
