Birmingham, Ala. – Sending two harriers to compete in the 800 meter run at the national meet, seniors Leonie Rauls and Danielle Griffin both surpassed their seed times to impress for the Amherst College women's track & field team at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex on the campus of Birmingham Southern College.
In a stellar showing in the preliminaries, both Amherst harriers outperformed their seed times in the 800 meter run. Entering the weekend as the No. 16 seed, Rauls posted a personal best time of 2:15.56 to clinch 11th overall in the event.
Earning a spot in the finals, Griffin outpaced her No. 11 seed mark of 2:13.86 to cross the finish line in 2:11.82 and earn the top qualifying mark for the 8-competitor finals.
Taking to the track in the finals, Griffin posted a time of 2:12.84 to finish as the sixth fastest runner in all of Division III in the 800m. Landing inside the top-8 in the event, Griffin garnered All-American honors to become the first Amherst harrier to be named All-America in the event in program history.
