Amherst Records Four Top-10 Finishes at the DIII New England Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Competing in the DIII New England Championships, the Mammoths secured four top-10 finishes in a solid performance at the annual meet hosted at the Springfield College Field House.

Williams led the meet with 149 points followed by MIT (127 points) and Middlebury (73 points).

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 when they compete in the Winter Track Carnival hosted by Middlebury College beginning at 10 a.m.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Jenny Mazzella '20 paced the Mammoths in the 800 meter run, notching a 12th place finish with a time of 2:24.70, while Christina Scartelli '19 crossed the finish line in 2:25.62 to place 15th overall.
  • In the 3000 meter run, Haley Greene '21 recorded an eighth place finish behind a time of 10:31.14.
  • With an 18:52.75 mark, Olivia Polischeck '21 claimed 17th overall in the 5000 meter run.
  • Ella Rossa '21 had one of the Mammoths top finish of the day, clocking a 9.01 mark in the 60 meter hurdles prelims to qualify for the finals heat before taking eighth overall (9.09 seconds).
  • In the 4x800 meter relay, the quartet of Grace Haase '21, Mazzella, Scartelli and Adele Loomis '18 ran to an 11th place finish with a time of 10:08.61.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Becki Golia '18 led Amherst in the high jump, registering a height of 1.60 meters to place fifth in the 27-compeitor field, while Kaitlyn Siegel earned ninth overall (J1.60).
