NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Amherst College women's track & field team has been honored as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2017 All-Academic Team and Kiana Herold '17 and Katherine Treanor '20 have earned USTFCCCA Academic individual praise, as recently announced by the organization.
183 women's and 294 total teams garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Team distinction, with squads needing a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher during the 2016-17 academic year to qualify for the award.
Capturing a team GPA of 3.60, Amherst ranked 10th in the nation among DIII institutions and third in the NESCAC for their work in the classroom. Middlebury (3.63), Connecticut College (3.512), Hamilton (3.47), Trinity (3.393), Tufts (3.47), Wesleyan (3.612) and Williams (3.409) comprise the additional NESCAC squads to reap USTFCCCA team honors.
Individually, Herold and Treanor are two of 608 women to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track & field seasons.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honors, student-athletes must own a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event, or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
