Asare-Bediako and Treanor Close Out Spring Season Strong at NCAAs

GENEVA, Ohio – Abbey Asare-Bediako '18 and Katherine Treanor '20 of the Amherst College women's outdoor track & field team wrapped up competition at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Running in the 10,000-meter race after securing the No. 11 seed with a 35:57.3 mark, Treanor recorded an impressive final mile time of 5:32 to capture a new personal best time of 35:55.53 and finish 10th overall. Taryn Cordani of Ithaca took gold in the event with a 34:41.11 mark.

"Katherine did a really great job in her first outdoor track NCAA meet. She executed her race plan really well, taking the lead when the pace slowed and chasing down runners in front of her," commented head coach Cassie Funke-Harris. "I was most proud of the way she competed in the last mile. She ran a 5:32 last mile after averaging around 5:48 before that point. She ran a very mature race, and it was incredibly fun to watch!"

Seeded 16th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.78 meters, Asare-Bediako claimed 20th overall at the national meet, registering a mark of 11.28 meters.
