Women's Track & Field Places 16th at DIII New England Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Amherst College women's outdoor track & field team finished 16th during NCAA Division III New England Championship action Friday and Saturday, May 5-6 hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.

MIT won the team championship with 167 points, while Williams placed second with 153.50. Bates College came in third with 79 points to round out the top three teams in the field of 32 scoring teams.

Amherst totaled 15.50 points en route to a 16th place finish including a second place effort from Katherine Treanor '20 in the 5000-meter run (17:28.14). Tess Frenzel '17 added an eighth place finish in that race with a time of 18:20.40. 

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Savanna Gornisiewicz '17 clocked a time of 11:33.97 and finished in eighth place, while the 4x800-meter relay team also finished eighth with a time of 9:52.30. 

In the high jump, Kiana Herold '17 posted a leap of 1.60 meters and finished in a tie for fourth place. 

The Mammoths return to action at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Williams on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.
