NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Katherine Treanor '20, Abbey Asare-Bediako '18 and Kiana Herold '17 of the Amherst College women's indoor track & field team wrapped up competition at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon at host North Central College.
The sole first-year and one of only five total underclassman to qualify for the event, Treanor ran eight seconds faster than her No. 15 seed time (17:20.43) in the 5,000-meter run to clock a 11th place finish behind a time of 17:12.73. Taryn Cordani of Ithaca claimed gold in the event as she crossed the finish line with a meet record mark of 16:28.15.
Herold took home ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.69 meters after entering competition as the 16th-overall seed. She was one of seven jumpers to record a mark of 1.69m, but finished in the No. 9 slot due to a miss on her first attempt at 1.65m. Cirrus Robinson of Ohio Wesleyan won the event with a height of 1.72 meters.
In the triple jump, Asare-Bediako secured 16th place with a distance of 11.29 meters. Alex Wandy of SUNY Geneseo claimed the individual national title with a meet record jump of 12.64 meters.
