Jeffs Place 8th at New England Division III Outdoor Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Amherst College women's outdoor track & field team tied for 8th at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Track on Friday and Saturday.

Host MIT won the meet with 180 points, followed by Williams College (89), Tufts University (63.5), WPI (47) and Bowdoin College (40) to round out the top five teams in the field of 31. Amherst scored 35 points along with Bates College to place in a tie for eighth.  

Karen Blake '17 highlighted the sprint events for Amherst, posting a win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.95, and added a second place mark in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.28.

Savanna Gornisiewicz '17 powered to a second place time of 37:00.41 in the 10,000-meter run to give the Jeffs their only points in the distance events.

Kiana Herold '17 and Becki Golia '18 finished fourth and fifth in the high jump with respective marks of 1.64 meters and 1.59 meters to round out the scoring for the Purple & White.

Amherst returns to action May 8-9 at the two-day NEICAAA Championship.
