Jeffs Place Sixth at UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College women's outdoor track & field team concluded the UMass Amherst Invitational with a total of 42 points, earning them a sixth place finish in the nine team field on Saturday.

Boston College successfully defended their title as reigning champions, edging Northeastern University (147) by three points to secure first overall on the day with a score of 150. Host UMass Amherst landed in third place with a total of 143 points, and Holy Cross finished with 132 points to round out a highly competitive top four.

Karen Blake '17 led the way for the Purple and White, sprinting to a first place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.53) and earning second overall in the 100-meter with a time of 12.29.

In the 400-meter sprint, Victoria Hensley '16 was the first Amherst runner to cross the finish line, securing 13th with a time 1:01.27. Kiana Herold '17and Becki Golia '18 secured first and fourth in the 12-women high jump competition, with scores of 5 feet 3.25 inches and 5 feet 1.25 inches, respectively.

In the 800-meter run, Kelli Ellingston'15 finished 14th overall in the 42-women field with a time of 2:22.46. Sarah Foster '16 posted a time of 4:53:25 to place 19th in the 1500-meter run.

Amherst returns to the track Saturday, April 18 at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Conn.
