NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Amherst College women's indoor track and field team finished 12th overall in the 60-team field at the 2015 ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y.
The reigning champions finished in a tie for 12th with Cortland State, as both squads posted a score of 20. Buffalo State won this year's meet with 61 points, followed by Ithaca (38) and Rochester (32) in second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top-five were RIT and Rowan with 31 points each. Amherst finished first among NESCAC programs, ahead of Bowdoin who placed 14th.
The Purple & White picked up four top-10 finishes during the two-day meet. Highlighting the championships were Olivia Tarantino '15 and Karen Blake '17. Tarantino picked up a third-place finish in the 1,000 meter run with a mark of 3:02.31. She was also a member of the 4x800 relay squad that took sixth overall in 9:45.30. She was joined by Kelli Ellingson '15, Sarah Foster '16 and Hannah Herrera '17.
Blake excelled in two individual events. The sophomore finished third in the 60 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter run with times of 7.75 and 25.22, respectively. Both marks were season-bests for the Jeffs.
Amherst returns to action next week when the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships begin Friday, March 13 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
