Jeffs Place Fifth at the New England Division III Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Amherst College women's track & field team notched a fifth place finish in the 2015 New England Division III Championships hosted by Smith College on Saturday afternoon.

MIT won the event with 151 points, followed by Williams College (86) in second, Wesleyan University (58) and the University of Southern Maine (58) in a tie for third, and Amherst (51) in fifth to round out the top five teams in the field of 30 squads.

Kiana Herold '17 won the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters, while Becki Golia '18 finished in eighth with a jump of 1.60 meters.

Karen Blake '17 finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.79, and placed third in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 25.98.

In the 1000-meter run, senior co-captains Olivia Tarantino and Kelli Ellingson finished sixth and seventh with respective times of 3:04.54 and 3:04.81.

Lexi Sinclair '16, Savanna Gornisiewicz '17 and Lizzy Briskin '15 finished fourth, fifth and sixth, with respective times of 17:28.58, 17:29.28 and 17:30.15 in the 5000-meter run.

The 4x200-meter and 4x800-meter relays each placed seventh with times of 1:47.35 and 9:43.33. The distance medley relay added a sixth place mark of 12:45.12.

Amherst is back in action at the Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28.
