Jeffs Finish Third at Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Amherst College women's indoor track and field team placed third overall out of 17 teams at the Tufts Cupid Challenge in the Gantcher Center at Tufts University Saturday.

MIT won the meet with a total of 190 points followed by Tufts and Amherst with 115 and 108 points, respectively. Rounding out the top-five were Wesleyan (65) and Merrimack (36).

In track events, Karen Blake '17 won the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.20 and took second in the 60 meter dash crossing the line at 7.86. Taylor Summers '16 sprinted her way to a fourth place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.05.

Cat Lowdon '17 and Kelli Ellingson '15 had a similar finish in the one mile, taking second (5:20.88) and fourth (5:30.04), respectively.

Nicky Roberts '18 was edged in the 3,000 meter race and finished third with a time of 10:16.33.

In the 5,000 meter run, Savanna Gornisiewicz '17 (17:32.65), Lizzy Briskin '15 (17:39.78) and Lexi Sinclair '16 (17:41.14) finished second through fourth, respectively.

In relays, the 4x200 team consisting of Summers, Louise Atadja '16, Kiana Herold '17 and Blake crossed the finish line with a first place time of 1:48.94.

Herold also picked up another win in the high jump, claiming the event with a leap of 1.65 meters.

The Jeffs resume action next Saturday, February 14th at Boston University in the Valentine Classic.
