Jeffs Place Third at Little Three Championship

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Karen Blake '17, Lexi Sinclair '16 and Kiana Herold '17 each won an event for Amherst as the Jeffs placed third at the 2014-15 Little Three Indoor Championships hosted by Wesleyan University at Bacon Field House.

Williams College won the Little Three Championship with 132.50 points, followed closely by Wesleyan with 131.50 points and Amherst with 86 points.

Blake won the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.33, edging out Williams' Jessica O'Brien who clocked a time of 26.54. Blake also placed second in the 60-meter dash (8.00) behind Wesleyan's Alexis Walker who won the event with a time of 7.92.

In the distance events, Sinclair paced the field with a top finish of 10:15.08 in the 3,000-meter race ahead of sophomore teammate Savanna Gornisiewicz who finished second with a time of 10:22.54.

Lizzy Briskin '15 and Cara Lembo '17 finished third and fourth in the 1-mile run with respective times of 5:19.38 and 5:33.22, behind a pair of Ephs' runners, Laney Teaford (5:12.41) and Anna Spiers (5:13.65).

The 4x400-meter relay tandem of Sarah Whelan '17, Molly Levy '15, Kaeili Mathias '18 and Hannah Herrera '17 placed third (4:35.37). The 4x800-meter relay combination of Lembo, Keelin Moehl '16, Leonie Rauls '18 and Kelli Ellingson '15 also placed third with a time of 10:05.25.

In the field events, Herold placed first in the high jump with a new school record mark of 1.62 meters besting her previous record mark of 1.69 meters. She finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 7.92 meters.

Taylor Summers '16 added a second place mark of 5.10 meters in the long jump, while Abbey Asare-Bediako '18 recorded a mark of 10.46 meters in the triple jump to finish third.

The Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Wesleyan University for dual meet action.
