NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Kiana Herold '17 highlighted the day for the Amherst College women's indoor track & field team as the Jeffs opened the 2014-15 season at the Smith Winter Classic Saturday afternoon.
Herold won the high jump Saturday with a leap of 1.65 meters. She also finished sixth in the 600 meter run (1:53.81) and ninth in the long jump (4.88m) for a total of three top-10 finishes.
Amherst also received great performances from a trio of first-years. Danielle Griffin '18 placed in the top-10 in three different events as well and finished fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:03.10), seventh in the triple jump (9.89m) and 10th in the long jump (4.87m). Abbey Asare-Bediako '18 placed fifth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 10.25 meters and Becki Golia '18 claimed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters.
Rounding out the top performers on the day for Amherst were Taylor Summers '16 and Sarah Whelan '17. Summers finished sixth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8:26 and seventh in the long jump with a distance of 4.98 meters. Whelan took home eighth-place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.05.
Amherst is off for the winter break and will return to action Saturday, Jan. 17 for the Tufts Stampede.
