DELAWARE, Ohio – Naomi Bates '14 put the wraps on a stellar senior season with a pair of strong showings in the women's 100 and 200-meter dash at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
In yesterday's 100-meter prelims, Bates clocked in at 11.98, joining seven other student-athletes in this afternoon's final heat. With a time of 12.49, the senior standout finished eighth overall to nab her second All-America honor of the meet.
Closing out her career with a seventh-place showing in the 200-meter final, Bates clocked in at 25.26, once again earning her All-America accolades. In Thursday's preliminary round, Bates turned in the meet's second-fastest qualifying time (24.29).
Also competing in two other events over the weekend, she ran a leg on the squad's 4x100 meter relay, while successfully defending her indoor crown (5.79m) in the long jump. Joining Keri Lambert '13, Shauneen Garrahan '07, Carter Hamill '05 and Nicole Campbell '00 as the Jeffs' only other outdoor national champions, Bates posted a program-record leap of 6.02 meters.
Behind Bates' solid showing, the Amherst women finished 15th overall in the team standings with 14 points. With her win in the long jump and All-America runs in the 100 and 200-meter, Bates accounted for 13 points. First-year Kiana Herold recorded the squad's only other point by placing eighth in the high jump.
