SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - With strong showings in the 1000-meter and mile run, the Amherst women's indoor track and field team notched 68.50 points, finishing third out of 12 teams at the Springfield Invitational.
Lauren Almeida '13 led the Jeffs' in the 1000m, winning the event in 3:03.65, while Olivia Tarantino '15 placed third with a time of 3:09.55. Keri Lambert '13 led the way in the mile run, finishing nearly nine seconds ahead of her closest competitor with a time of 5:05.12. First-years Anna Berglund and Betsy Black also turned in solid performances, placing fourth (5:23.15) and fifth (5:25.82), respectively.
Coming in third in the 800-meter run, Amy Dao '14 earned six points for Amherst, clocking in at 2:24.19, while Abraelle Shirley '15 finished fourth in the 60m dash (8.07). Naomi Bates '14 also did well in the sprints, placing third in the 60m hurdles (9.52), while teaming up with Shirley, Jasmine Green '16 and Taylor Summers '16 on the Jeffs' second-place 4x200 relay team that posted a school record time of 1:48.29.
Jessica Mueller '13 and Bates led the Purple and White in the field events, coming in third (4.99m) and fourth (10.69m) in the long and triple jumps, respectively.
St. Lawrence took home the top team honor with 113 points, followed by host Springfield (82) and Amherst (68.50). Westfield State (52) came in fourth with Coast Guard (42), WPI (41), American International (39), RPI (32), Keene State (24) and Mount Holyoke (22) rounding out the top-10.
