Naomi Bates '14 placed sixth in a field of 48 in the long jump at the BU's Valentine Invitational.
BOSTON, Mass. - The Amherst women's indoor track & field team enjoyed a strong showing at Boston University's Valentine Invitational, setting 11 personal and 10 team bests.
Naomi Bates '14 (Washington, D.C.) placed sixth out of field of 48 in the long jump with a mark of 5.33 meters, while Jessica Mueller '13 (East Freetown, Mass.) and Jordan Roehl '12 (Portales, N.M.), led the Jeffs in the triple jump (10.38m) and weight throw (13.02m), respectively.
Amherst's distance medley relay team of Lauren Almeida '13 (Reading, Mass.), Bates, Melissa Sullivan '12 (Dallas, Texas) and Keri Lambert '13 (Amherst, Mass.) also impressed, placing seventh in a field of 29 with a time of 12:01.06 - good for the fourth fastest run in Division III this season.
Lambert and Almeida led the Jeffs in the 800-meter, clocking in at 2:16.92 and 2:20.99, respectively, with Lambert's time ranking as the third fastest by a Division III student-athlete in New England.
Headlining Amherst's distance runners were Lisa Walker '14 (Superior, Colo.) and Amy Dao '14 (Boxborough, Mass.) in the mile run, finishing just four hundredths of a second apart, with Walker crossing the tape in 5:14.44, improving her season best time by 15 seconds. Ellen Richmond '12 (Concord, N.H.) dropped nearly 10 seconds from her fastest time in the 800m, coming in at 2:22.35.
Junior Kristen Moulton (North Reading, Mass.) paced the Jeffs in the 3000-meter event (10:41.61),while Abby Hopper shaved 54 seconds from her best showing of the year, clocking in at 10:46.78.
First-year Abraelle Shirley (Hawthorne, Calif.) and Shyloe Jones '14 (Cranston, R.I.) led Amherst's sprinters in the 200m dash with times of 26.71 and 26.84, respectively.
The Lord Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the DIII New England Championships hosted by Smith College.
