Amherst Finishes Seventh at NESCAC Championships

LEWISTON, Maine - Keri Lambert '13 (Amherst, Mass.) recorded a pair of runner-up finishes to lead the Amherst women's track and field team to a seventh-place finish at the 2012 NESCAC Outdoor Championships. 

Placing second in the 5000m run with a time of 17:36.46, Lambert also finished as the runner-up in the steeplechase (10:36.60) to lead all Amherst competitors with 16 points. Naomi Bates '14 (Washington, D.C.) also enjoyed a strong championship meet, finishing third in the 200m dash (25.75), while recording a pair of fifth-place showings in the 100m (12.50) and long jump (5.23m).

Lauren Almeida '13 (Reading, Mass.) helped pace the Jeffs' mid-distance corps, earning five points in the 1500-meter run by placing fourth with a facility record time of 4:42.77, while Lizzy Briskin '15 (Sherborn, Mass.) turned in a fourth-place finish in the 5000m, clocking in at 17:51.80.

Jessica Kaliski '15 (Wellesley, Mass.) notched Amherst's only other point in the distance events, coming in eighth in the 10,000-meter run (39:23.12), while the 4x800 relay team of Richmond, who placed eighth in the individual 800m (2:22.51), Almeida, Lambert and Amy Dao '14 (Boxborough, Mass.) turned in a time of 9:41.24 - good for fourth.

Williams once again took the Championship's top honor with 180 team points, followed by Tufts (159), Middlebury (157), Bowdoin (99.5) and Colby (58) in the top five. 

Bates finished sixth with a score of 57.5, with Amherst (52) and Wesleyan (43) coming in seventh and eighth, respectively. Conn. College (10) and Hamilton (3) rounded out the field, placing ninth and tenth.

Amherst returns to action on May 4-5 at the DIII New England Championships hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
