Amherst Women Win Three Events at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The 25th-ranked Amherst College women's indoor track and field team won three events at Saturday's Tufts University Invitational, as the Lord Jeffs placed fourth among 11 schools in their first scoring meet of the season. 

Amherst's 111.33 points trailed only Tufts (173.33), Worcester State (146.33) and UMass Lowell (121.50) in the team standings. The Lord Jeffs notably posted three of the top four times in the 800-meter run, which Keri Lambert '13 won by nearly 11 seconds with a mark of 2:23.28. 

Lambert also ran the third leg of the winning 4x800 relay (9:50.30), as she was joined by Lauren Almeida '13, Amy Dao '14 and Melissa Sullivan '12. Accounting for Amherst's third win was Jessie Kaliski '15, who finished the 5,000-meter run in 19:11.96. Abby Hopper '13 took the runner-up spot in the 5k, less than five seconds behind Kaliski (19:16.87). 

Sullivan and Almeida placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1,000-meter run with times of 3:06.64 and 3:08.45. The Jeffs finished 6-7-8 in the mile, as Lisa Walker '14 (5:26.67), Lizzy Briskin '15 (5:27.34) and Dao (5:29.55) were less than three seconds apart. 

Rounding out Amherst's top distance performers were Kristen Moulton '13 and Angie Epifano '14, who finished the 3,000-meter run in 11:02.13 (6th) and 11:13.42 (7th), respectively. 

Once again standing out for the Lord Jeffs with several top-5 performances was Naomi Bates '14. In addition to placing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.50 seconds, Bates finished third in the triple jump (10.01m) and fourth in the long jump (4.82m). Also standing out in the field events was Joelle Comrie '14, who had the eighth best mark in the high jump (1.37m). 

Newcomer Abraelle Shirley '15 put in the eighth fastest time in the 60-meter dash (8.38) and helped the Jeffs place third in the 4x200. Joining Shirley in the relay were Jade McKnight '13, Shyloe Jones '14 and Beth Hall '14, who teamed up to run a 1:53.04. 

The Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Wesleyan University.
