Wesleyan Invite - Jan 17th
Performers of the Meet - Zandra Walton and Daniel Murner
The team returned to competitive action at Wesleyan, and despite the heavy volume of work done over the past two weeks with double sessions, the teams looked very solid in the first competition of the new year. Sitting out nearly the entire distance crew, and others who would benefit from another week of training, most of those who did compete either raced at an over distance event or doubled up in events to get a solid workout. The women were led by individual winners Carly Levenson in the 400 - as she led a 1-2-4 sweep with Susie Wasserman and Mary Doris Reggie hot on her heels; Molly Priedeman in the 800 - leading a 1-2-3 sweep - with Hoiwan Cheung and Zoe Pagonis in close pursuit, Zandra Walton handily winning the mile and finishing 2nd in the 1000 shortly after; Jordan Roehl capturing her second Shot Put victory of the season and the 4x800 team of Priedeman, Levenson, Cheung and Reggie finishing the day with a win. Melissa Sullivan placed 3rd in the 1000 - her first ever indoor race. Mattie Baker led the team in the 200, along with a strong run in the 55 to open up her season. kate Silverman and Kat Loomis each qualified for the finals in the 55 hurdles in addition to running the 500. Jenny Mancino and Jennifer Rybak tied for 3rd in the high jump; Chibuzo Uwakaneme had strong throws in the Shot and Weight throw, improving on her marks from the first meet in December.
The men were led by a 1-5 sweep in the 3000 as Daniel Murner lead the way with his 8:47 clocking to pace Carlyle Eubank, Steve Corsello, Will Bell and Jimmy Swanson. All of them came back a few minutes after the race to run in the 4x800 to cap the day. Tommy Moore was victorious in the 500 as he took command of the race from the gun and never looked back, and Ryan Drost had a strong last stretch to grab the runner-up spot, with fellow training partner Chris Erickson coming in 4th. First year ben Scheetz stepped up to the 1000, and used a strong finishing kick to take the victory in the waning meters, while Steve Stewart grabbed 4th. Anthony Fuller grabbed 8th in the 55, and 6th in the 200. Kit Callahan closed hard in the last lap of the mile to finish 3rd with Joe Addison finishing 9th, and in the 2nd section Jack Seaver had a great race to win that race over teammate Kevin Hanley. The 4x400 team of Kit, Tommy, Ryan and Chris finished 3rd while the 4x800 team of Stew, Ben, Jimmy and Steve Corsello grabbed the runner-up spot.
