  • Elise Tropiano Earns Spot on Prestigious ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team

    Amherst College’s Elise Tropiano '09 (Plainview, NY) has been named to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Women’s Track and Cross Country Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
  • Tropiano Gets NESCAC's Nod for NCAA Woman of the Year

    Elise Tropiano (Plainview, NY), a 2009 graduate of Amherst College and a former participant on the Jeffs’ cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams, has been nominated for the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year Award by the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). She is the second individual from Amherst in the past three years to be nominated by the conference for Woman of the Year, after Shauneen Garrahan was nominated in 2007.

  • Amherst Wraps up Competition at ECAC Championships

    The Amherst College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the ECAC Championships Friday afternoon with the men tying for 29th place and the women tying for 28th. The Lord Jeffs will see their 2009 season come to an end next weekend when select members head to Marietta, Ohio, for the NCAA Championships.

    Competing against schools from Divisions I, II and III, the Amherst College men's outdoor track and field team placed 33rd at the Open New England Championships, while the women's squad finished 23rd. The Lord Jeffs return to action next weekend for the ECAC Championships.

    Following the completion of the 2009 NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the 2009 NESCAC All-Conference Team has been announced. The top three finishers in each event during the championship, hosted by Connecticut College on Apr. 25, receive All-Conference recognition, with 16 members of the Amherst College teams claiming the honor this year. Of those 16 were three Lord Jeff men’s team members who grabbed honors in multiple events.

    With two All-America performances in the 5,000-meter run under her belt, Amherst College senior Elise Tropiano (Plainview, NY) earned the title of “national champion” when she took home first place in the 5k at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. On the men’s side, Amherst College’s distance medley relay team placed seventh to cap off an impressive indoor season for the Lord Jeffs.

    The NCAA track and field national committee has released the complete fields and heat sheets for the 25th annual NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships to be held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology this Friday and Saturday. Select Amherst College runners will take part in the men’s distance medley relay and the women’s 5,000-meter run.
  • Daniel Murner '10 Wins 3k, 5k to Lead Amherst Teams at ECAC Championships

    Junior Daniel Murner (Crestwood, KY) won the 3,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run to lead Amherst College at the 2009 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Division III ECAC Championships. The Lord Jeff men finished second in a field of 50 teams, while the Amherst women tied for 19th place in a field of 51.

Competing against schools from Divisions I, II and III, the Lord Jeff men placed 25th in a field of 33 teams and the women placed 20th in a field of 32.
