  • Polich, Garrahan Grab ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Women's Track & Field Academic All-District Plaudits

    Amherst College women’s track and field senior co-captain Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) and junior Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) were both named ESPN The Magazine District 1 College Division Second-Team Academic All-District on Wednesday as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

    Junior Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) sped to a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Amherst College women’s outdoor track and field team at the NCAA Division III Championship meet, hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. over the weekend. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh claimed the women’s team title, while the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse took home the men’s team crown.
  • Dalton, Foote Lead Amherst Track and Field at ECAC Championships

    Rookie Liz Dalton (Wayne, PA) posted the highest finish of the day for Amherst College, as the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the ECAC Championships over the weekend. Dalton’s 39:55.23 showing in the 10,000-meter run was good for second place and half of the team’s 16 points, while classmate Peter Foote (Shelburne, VT) got a point for Amherst on the men’s side, taking eighth-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:42.31.
  • Jeffs Compete At Open New England Championships

    The Amherst women’s track and field team finished 15th at the Open New England Championships hosted by MIT over the weekend, featuring athletes from Division I, II and III institutions. Amherst racked up 17 points for a 15th-place tie with Springfield College, while the University of Connecticut easily claimed the crown with 229.25 points. Williams College was the highest Division III finisher, taking second with 74.25 points.
  • Jeffs Claim 4x800 Crown at Division III Regionals

    The Amherst women’s 4x800 relay team claimed the New England Division III crown, posting a school and meet record, at the Regional Championships hosted by Springfield College on Saturday. The women’s squad finished sixth overall, while the Jeff men raced to a strong 15th-place showing. Perennial regional powerhouse Williams College took both the men’s and women’s titles.

    Junior Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) smashed her own conference record and posted two individual event victories to lead the Amherst women’s track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday. Garrahan accounted for 20 of the women’s 83 points, while the men’s squad finished 11th with 14 points. Williams College took both the women’s and men’s conference crowns, with 167 and 214 points, respectively.

Senior co-captain Ginger Polich (Ironwood, Michigan) highlighted the women's field, earning provisional qualification to the NCAA Championships, winning the 800-meter run in 2:15.21.

Garrahan bested the field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:27.20), while Lakehomer won the 5,000-meter run in 15:29.12.

Rookie Jenny Mancino (New York, NY) smashed a school record in the women’s 300-meter dash with her 44.59 ninth-place finish, while sophomores Kim Partee (Brentwood, TN) and Mike Harbus (New York, NY) picked up respective third-place honors in the 5,000-meter run.

    The Amherst women's indoor track and field team posted a third-place showing as they picked up two wins at the Tufts Invitational II on Saturday, while the men's team finished ninth. Host Tufts University won both the men’s and women’s meets. Rookie Zandra Walton (Skaneateles, NY) raced to a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter run (3:00.55) and also combined with classmates Caitlin McDermott-Murphy (Newton, MA) and Carly Levenson (Richmond, VA) and senior co-captain Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) as they bested the distance medley relay field in 12:43.67.

    The Amherst College indoor track and field team took home six individual wins at the Wesleyan Invitation on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a 1-2-3-4 finish in the women’s 1-mile run. Sophomore Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) led the Amherst contingent in 5:20.42 as she bested the field for the first of her day’s two victories. Rookie Zandra Walton (Skaneateles, NY) was right on her heels, finishing only .35 seconds later, while classmates Caitlin McDermott-Murphy (Newton, MA) and Nicole Anderson (Kailua, HI) placed third and fourth, respectively.

  • Jeffs Open Indoor Season at Northeastern

    The women’s indoor track teams opened their seasons at Northeastern University’s Husky Winter Carnival on Saturday. Partee’s scorching time of 17:48.42 earned her second place in the 5k, and Wilson grabbed fourth with her 17:56.71 showing. Morrissey crossed the line in 14:52.57, good for third place.
