BOSTON, MA - Amherst's indoor track team opened its season with impressive individual showings at the Northeastern University Husky Track & Field Carnival on Saturday. For the women, first-year Lyndsey Scott (West Orange, NJ) opened up with a 30th-place finish in the 200-meter dash, and classmate Caitlin Williams (Phoenix, AZ) followed up with a 49th-place showing. First-year Ariel Haney (Fairport, NY) and senior tri-captain Alison Stahl (Amston, CT) notched respective seventh- and 16th-place times in the 400-meter dash, and junior Helen Dole (Shelburne Falls, MA) and sophomore Alison Rodriguez (Albany, NY) followed up with 12th- and 23rd-place performances in the mile run. Sophomore Monica Westin (Lexington, KY) grabbed 21st place in the 500-meter run. Senior tri-captain Kate Hamill (New York, NY) paced first-year Kristen Reid (Minneapolis, MN) in the 800-meter run - Hamill took home fourth place and Reid held on for 20th place - before senior tri-captain Laurel Kilgour (Clifton Park, NY) took third place in the 1000-meter run. Defending national champion sophomore Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) was good for fifth place in the 5000-meter run, and the 4x200-meter relay team ran to 12th place. The 4x800-meter relay team turned heads with a fourth-place finish. Scott and Haney showed up again in the high jump, and snagged respective 10th and 14th places. Williams stepped up again for a 12th-place long jump, and first-year Julia Rucker (Minneapolis, MN) and Dole rounded out the women's day with 12th and 14th places in the long jump.
On the men's side, junior Janak Chandrasoma (Pasadena, CA) kicked off the Jeff day with a 52nd-place finish in the 200-meter dash, before he reeled in a 14th-place time in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Nathaniel Mahlberg (Madison, WI) and first-year Tim Porter (Newton, MA) snagged respective 12th- and 18th-place nods in the 500-meter run, and the 4x400-meter relay team was good for 17th place. Juniors Paul Whiting (Mission Viejo, CA) and Julius Nanna (Cobham, England) brought home 13th and 15th place in the triple jump.
The Jeffs will take an extended break from competition for the winter break. They will return to action at Tufts University on Sat., Jan. 18, at 10 a.m.
