  • Hamill Third in 5,000 Meters at NCAA Outdoor Championships

    Amherst College rookie sensation Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) finished third overall with a time of 16:56.62 in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, hosted by Macalester College. Hamill – who won the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March – crossed the tape behind first-place finisher Mary Proulx of Keene State College (16:50.52) and runner-up Nicole Cueno of Grinell College (16:54.42).

    The Amherst College women's outdoor track team finished in 20th place out of a strong 32-team field at last weekend's New England Track and Field Championships, hosted by Northeastern University. Amherst amassed 8 points on the three-day meet. The University of Connecticut came out on top with 134 points, and host Northeastern notched 95 points, good for second place.

    The Amherst College women's outdoor track team finished in 12th place out of a strong 27-team field at Friday and Saturday's New England Division III Track and Field Championships, hosted by Springfield College. Amherst amassed 29 points on the two-day meet. Williams College came out on top with 163 points, and the host Pride notched 17 points.

Bolstered by six first-place finishes, the Jeff men ended the day in third place, behind the United States Coast Guard Academy and Trinity College. Meanwhile, the Amherst women made their spring debut a memorable one, posting a fourth-place showing behind Coast Guard, Trinity, and the host Camels.

    Amherst College first-year sensation Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) earned All-American honors and won the 5,000-meter race in a scorching 17:11.93 at the NCAA Championships at Ohio Northern University on Friday evening. The win capped a stellar rookie campaign for Hamill, who shattered previous school records in the 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter, and 5,000-meter events earlier this season. Hamill also combined with Amherst juniors Kate Hamill (New York, NY), Laurel Kilgour (Clifton Park, NY) and recent NESCAC All-Academic selection senior Rebecca Woo (Manchester, NH) to set a school record in the 4x800-meter relay.

    First-year Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) will travel to Ohio Northern University in Oxford, OH to represent the Amherst women's indoor track team at the NCAA Championship Meet. Hamill will run in the 5,000-meter race on Friday, after shattering previous school records in the 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter, and 5,000-meter events during her inagural indoor track season. This winter, Hamill also combined with junior Kate Hamill (New York, NY), senior tri-captain Anne Perez (Chappaqua, NY), and recent NESCAC All-Academic selection senior Rebecca Woo (Manchester, NH) to set a school record in the 4x800-meter relay.
  • Men's & Women's Indoor Track Compete at ECAC Championships

    The Amherst College women's indoor track team notched a 39-point, fifth-place finish at the ECAC Championships this weekend, highlighted by senior Rebecca Woo (Manchester., NH) and her 2:56.99 win in the 1000-meter run, as well as the 4x800-meter squad's first-place, 9:26.99 showing. Senior Amie Shei (Lexington, MA) also picked up the pace for the Jeffs, pulling up to a second-place finish in the 500-meter dash.

    The Amherst College women's indoor track team came up with a 14th place finish at this weekend's All-New England Championships at Tufts University. Amherst archrivals Wheaton College and Williams College finished the meet in third and ninth places, respectively. Meanwhile, the men's indoor track team traveled to Boston University for their end of the championships, and met with strong resistance in a meet that saw the University of Connecticut take the top spot with 180 points.

    The Amherst women's indoor track team took home a strong 88-point, third-place showing at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday while the Amherst men notched a 52-point, sixth-place finish to round out the weekend. The host Jumbos edged out the women for second place, behind first-place Ithaca College. Tufts also grabbed second place on the men's side, falling just short of Springfield College's 152.50 points on the day.

    In its second meet of the season on Saturday, the Amherst College women's indoor track team scored 91 points to win the Brandeis Collegiate Invitational by a lopsided margin. Second-place Wesleyan University's 65 points fell 26 shy of the champion Jeffs. Meanwhile, Amherst's men finished third behind Bowdoin College and Stonehill.
