CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Jackie Bukzin '22 and Claire Evans '22 led Amherst women's tennis in their opening weekend as they clinched a doubles final victory over Libby Rickeman and Sarah Pertsemlidis at the MIT Invitational Sunday morning.
The duos triumph came after cruising past the last two opponents (8-1, 8-3) with their toughest competition coming from the opening round of 16 when they took on another MIT tandem, Pamela Duke and Yuka Perera, where they pulled of an 8-7 win.
The other Mammoth that was still competing on the final day was Camille Smukler '20 who finished second in the singles consolation after dropping to Serim Jin, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Amherst concluded the tournament winning seven out of their 16 singles matches and half of their consolation outings. For doubles, Bukzin and Evans controlled the field and helped lead the Mammoths in winning six out of their 10 matches. The pair open up their 2019 slate with a 4-0 record in tournament play.
The Purple & White will wait till September 27th for their next tournament when they travel to Middlebury College for the ITA Regionals tournament.
