Amherst Earns First Round Bye in NCAA Women's Tennis Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Amherst College women's tennis team will travel to University of Mary Washington this weekend and will have a bye into the Second Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III women's tennis Regionals

Amherst (12-5) received an at-large bid to the tournament after reaching the semifinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tournament. The #6 team in the country will await the winner of the TCNJ/Wilkes match wich will be payed on Friday at 10:00 AM.

The host Eagles will open play in first round action on friday, as they host Franciscan University at 4:00 p.m. Other matches Friday will include The College of New Jersey taking on Wilkes at 10:00 a.m., and Johns Hopkins facing Grove City at 1 p.m.

Saturday's second round matches will be between Amherst and the winner of the TCNJ/Wilkes match, followed by the winners of the Johns Hopkins/Grove City and UMW/Franciscan matches. 

The winners of those matches will play in the Regional Final on Sunday for a trip to the national quarterfinals in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
