Tennis Topples Skidmore, 8-1
AMHERST, Mass. – In their final non-conference match of the regular season, the No. 7 Amherst College women's tennis team defeated #17 Skidmore College 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Amherst Tennis Center.
In a battle of top-ten players in the country Amherst first year Jackie Bukzin defeated Risa Fukushige 6-2, 7-5 at #1 doubles.
Bukzin and Kelsey Chen '19 also topped Fukushige and Renee Karchere-Sun 8-7 at the top doubles spot as the home team took a 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles play.
The Mammoths quickly secured the victory with wins at #6 singles, where Evans defeated Sofia Carlsson 6-3, 6-1 and #5 singles, where Owensby sealed the match with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Audrey SooHoo.
Dewire and Smukler each won in three sets for Amherst, while Lily Feldman secured the lone point of the day for Skidmore with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ivenitsky at #4 singles.
Amherst (8-2) secured their sixth straight win over Skidmore, a streak that includes two NCAA postseason meetings.
The Mammoths return to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play on Wednesday when they host Bates at 4:00 PM.
Skidmore falls to 9-5, but will look to stay perfect in Liberty League play (6-0) when they host Ithaca tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
