MEDFORD, Mass. -- Jacqueline Bukzin '22 finished the JumboTech CardaMammoth tournament placing second in her first collegiate competition as she led the Amherst College women's tennis team in the singles draw over the course of the three days of competition.
Bukzin served up at 9:00 AM as she took on Libby Rickeman of MIT. Bukzin gave up the first set 2-6 but then came back and won the next two sets by the same score of 6-3. This pushed Bukzin into the Championship match where she faced Kristina Yu of Wesleyan at 11:30 AM. Bukzin fell early and lost the first set 6-4. Yu did not let up as she took the second set 7-5 to win the singles draw tournament.
In the consolation singles draw, Camilla Trapness '19 made short work of her first opponent this morning, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-0 to launch her into the finals. Trapness faced off against Polina Kiseleva of Wesleyan where she lost in three sets (6-3,2-6,6-2).
The consolation doubles draw also had Mammoths in the finals where Anya Ramras '22 and Claire Evans '22 took on Polina Kiseleva and Venia Yeung of Wesleyan. Ramras and Evans unfortunately fell to the duo by a score of 8-4.
Amherst women's tennis returns to action on September, 28th when they travel to Williams College for the ITA New England Regional Championships.
