Women's Tennis Earns Singles & Doubles Wins on Day 1 at NCAA's

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Amherst College women's tennis picked up two victories on day 1 of the NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships, which began Thursday at Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

The doubles team of Anya Ivenitsky '20 and Avery Wagman '18 is into the quarterfinals round after a day 1 victory. Ivenitsky and Wagman breezed past Bridgid McGuire and Jillian Wallace of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-0, 6-3.

In the singles bracket, Camille Smukler '20 defeated Marjorie Antohi of Chicago, taking a one set lead and then fighting her way to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory.

The #5 seed in the 32-woman tournament, Smukler saw her National Championship run end in the Round of 16, falling 6-4, 7-5 to Caroline Casper of Pomona-Pitzer.

Ivenitsky and Wagman will be back on the court at 7:30 PM EST Friday against the #4 seed Lindsay Brown and Nicole Tan of the hosts Claremont-Mudd Scripps.
