2018 All-NESCAC Women's Tennis Teams

HADLEY, Mass. – Women's tennis player Camille Smukler '20 and doubles tandem of Avery Wagman '18 and Anya Ivenitsky '20 earned double honors this week when they were selected to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference team and also invited to play in the 2018 NCAA Division 3 women's tennis Individual Championships.

Smukler, Amherst's #1 singles player, was named First Team All-Conference and will be competing in the singles draw from May 21-26 in Claremont, California.

Ivenitsky and Wagman were tabbed as Second Team All-Conference selections and earned a spot in the NCAA Division III doubles competition at the same site that week.

With a 12-5 record from the #1 singles position, Smukler was a pivotal part of the Amherst team that made an appearance in the 2018 NESCAC quarterfinals. Between March 31st and April 13th, Smukler won six straight matches, including a three-set victory over the #1 singles player at top-ranked Emory University.

Smukler grabbed wins over MIT and Middlebury to end the year, and was a set up in her unfinished match against Tufts in the conference tournament. She was the 2016 NESCAC Rookie of the Year and a member of the Second Team for both doubles and singles last year.

Playing at the #1 doubles position, Ivenitsky and Wagman won nine matches for the Mammoths, including top-ten wins over Middlebury and Carnegie Mellon, a 9-7 victory over Brandeis, and conference victories against Hamilton, Bates and Trinity.

The doubles pair make their first appearances on an All-NESCAC team this season.

The #8 ranked Mammoths are headed to the University of Mary Washington this weekend for their NCAA regional. Amherst plays on Saturday afternoon against the winner of Friday's match between Lebanon Valley and N.C. Wesleyan.
