Strong Singles Play Sends Ephs Past Amherst, 6-3

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst women's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles play, but No. 2 ranked Williams College won five of six singles matches for a 6-3 win in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Amherst Tennis Center.

Vickie Ip '18 was a winner at #2 singles for Amherst and she paired with Jane Fraley '19 for an 8-3 win at second doubles. Camille Smukler '20 and Maddie Dewire '20 also earned a point, with a 9-7 win at third doubles over Giulia McDonnell and Korina Neveux.

Anya Ivenitsky '20 took the first set at #4 singles from Mia Gancayo, but the Williams senior fought back for 6-3, 6-1 wins at fourth singles.

Neveux outlasted Camilla Trapness '19 and took the first set in a tiebreaker before securing another point at six singles with a 6-1 second set victory.

The Ephs remain undefeated on the year (12-0) and improve to 3-0 in the NESCAC, while Amherst drops their first conference match of the year (8-5, 3-1 NESCAC). 

Amherst travels to Tufts on Tuesday for a 4:00 pm match, while Williams plays at Trinity tomorrow afternoon.
