WILTON, N.Y. – Picking up two doubles victories and five singles wins, the No. 8 Amherst College women's tennis team powered past No. 17 Skidmore, 7-2 Saturday afternoon at the Wilton YMCA.
With the win, Amherst improves to 4-3 on the season, while Skidmore falls to 9-3 overall. Amherst returns to action on Wednesday, April 4 when they host Connecticut College at 4 p.m.
Taking two of three doubles matches, Vickie Ip '18 and Jane Fraley '19 teamed up to down Ada Wiggins and Renee Karchere-Sun, 8-2 on the second court, while sophomore duo Maddie Dewire and Camille Smukler edged Alexa Goldberg and Jessica Ampel, 8-6 in the third position.
Earning singles win on all but the third court, Smukler downed Risa Fukushige, 6-4, 6-1 at the top of the ladder before Ip added a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 win over Wiggins in the No. 2 spot. On the third court, Anya Ivenitsky '20 earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory, while Avery Wagman '18 and Camilla Trapness '19 secured identical 6-2, 6-0 wins on the fifth and sixth court, respectively.
