No. 11 Mammoths Dropped by Third-Ranked CMS, 6-3

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The sophomores in the Mammoths' lineup impressed and combined to earn the squads' three wins as the No. 11 Amherst College women's tennis team was edged by No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-3 Thursday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

With the setback, Amherst falls to 2-3 on the season, while CMS improves to 13-0 overall. Amherst returns to action tomorrow, Friday, March 16 when they conclude their Spring Break trip with a 1 p.m. matchup against Sewanee in Malibu, Calif.

Down 2-1 after doubles play, the Mammoths lone doubles victory came on the third court as sophomore duo Maddie Dewire and Camille Smukler edged Juliette Martin and Kyla Scott, 8-5.

Amherst closed out the match with singles wins in the fourth and fifth position, as Dewire picking up her second win of the day with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Scott. Anya Ivenitsky '20 captured the Mammoths third and final win, downing Caroline Cox, 7-5, 6-4 on the fifth court.
