Smukler Concludes NCAA Individual Play

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – First-year Camille Smukler of the Amherst women's tennis team hit the courts for singles action in the 2017 NCAA Individual Championships at the Champions Tennis Club Thursday.

Facing off against Liza Southwick of Trinity-Texas in the Round of 32, the NESCAC Rookie of the Year fell in a three-set battle – falling 6-4 in the first set, before forcing a third and final set with a 6-4 win. In the determinative set, Smukler and Southwick were evenly matched, with Southwick earning a narrow 7-6 victory behind a tiebreaker to advance to the next round.

Top-seeded Eudice Chong of Wesleyan University captured her third-consecutive singles national title in the final, defeating second-seeded Rebecca Ho of Washington-St. Louis 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
