WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Facing off against their archrivals, the No. 12 Amherst College women's tennis team suffered a hard fought 8-1 loss to No. 4 Williams Saturday afternoon at the Hunt Tournament Courts.
With the loss, Amherst falls to 5-5 on the season and to 3-1 in NESCAC action, while Williams improves to 9-4 overall (3-1 NESCAC). Amherst returns to the courts on Wednesday, April 19 when they travel to Tufts for a 4 p.m. conference bout.
- The tandem of Camille Smukler '20 and Kelsey Chen '19 notched what stood as the Mammoths lone victory of the contest on the first court, downing Hannah Atkinson and Chloe Henderson, 8-5 in a hard fought battle.
- The Ephs earned wins across all six courts as Smukler fell to Juli Raventos, 6-3, 6-2 and Leah Bush edged Chen, 6-1, 6-4 in the first and second position, respectively.
- On the third court, Linda Shin bested Anya Ivenitsky '20 in thrilling 6-1, 5-7, 10-3 matchup, while Atkinson defeated Camilla Trapness '19, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot.
- The final two courts featured Megan Adamo '17 and Avery Wagman '18, with Mia Gancayco notching a 6-2, 6-1 win against Adamo and Julia Cancio toppling Wagman, 6-3, 6-2.
