MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The third-seeded and seventh-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team earned a 5-0 win over sixth-seeded and 30th-ranked Trinity College in first round action of the 2015 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championship hosted by Middlebury College at the Proctor Tennis Courts on Friday.
With the win, Amherst improves to 12-3 on the season and advances to play second seed and sixth-ranked Middlebury at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Amherst swept doubles action beginning with a convincing, 8-0 win on court 3 Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 bested Ania Alieve and Carolyn Zimmer. On the first court, Vickie Ip '18 and Sue Ghosh '16 defeated Melita Ferjanic and Morgan Feldman to stake an 8-2 win, while Jacqueline Calla '17 and Maddy Sung '16 topped Vanja Babunski and Emily Curtis, 8-4 to complete the sweep.
Needing just two wins to secure the win, Monteagudo bested Alieve from the No. 4 singles court, 6-0, 6-0, while Claire Carpenter '17 finished shortly after with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court six.
With the loss, Trinity moves to 6-9 on the season.
