MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The third-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team was edged, 5-4 by No. 8 Middlebury College Saturday afternoon in Middlebury, Vt.
With the loss, Amherst moves to 11-3 overall, 5-2 in NESCAC action, while Middlebury improves to 9-5 on the season, 4-2 in league play.
Jacqueline Calla '17 and Maddy Sung '16 secured an 8-2 win on court two as Middlebury took a 2-1 lead following doubles action. Sue Ghosh '16 and Vickie Ip '18 were outlasted, 9-7 on court No. 1 by Ria Gerger and Lily Bondy, while Sarah Monteagudo '16 and Safi Aly '15 fell, 8-3 to Lauren Amos and Alexandra Fields on the third court.
In singles action, Ghosh picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win on court two, while Megan Adamo '17 earned a 6-4, 7-6 win on court No. 5. From the sixth slot, Claire Carpenter '17 earned a three-set win (7-6, 0-6, 6-2) over Katie Paradies. The Panthers earned wins on the first, third and fourth courts, including a three-set victory by Kaysee Orozco who needed three frames to best Monteagudo (6-2, 4-6, 6-4).
Amherst returns to action at the three-day NESCAC Championships hosted by Middlebury May 1-3.
