MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The third-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team returned to winning ways Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 win over NESCAC and Little Three rival No. 17 Wesleyan University.
With the win, Amherst improves to 11-2 on the season, 5-1 in league play, while Wesleyan moves to 8-3 on the season, 3-3 in NESCAC action.
In doubles play, Wesleyan powered to a quick start as the Cardinals claimed an 8-4 decision on the first court and an 8-6 win on the No. 2 court. Amherst answered as Sarah Monteagudo '16 and Safi Aly '15 edged out Wesleyan, 9-7 on the No. 3 court to set the score at 2-1.
The Cardinals added to their advantage following a win on court No. 1 in singles action, but the Jeffs won courts 2-6 to clinch the 6-3 triumph.
Sue Ghosh '16 was victorious on court No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), while Jacqueline Calla '17 posted a 6-1, 7-5 win on court No. 3. Monteagudo secured a 6-0, 6-2 win on court No. 4, and Megan Adamo '17 earned a 6-4, 6-1 win from the fifth position. Claire Carpenter '17 finished off the win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court No. 6.
Amherst returns to NESCAC action Saturday, April 25 at Middlebury College at 1 p.m.
