Amherst Cruises to 8-1 Win Over Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. - The third-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team won its 10th straight dual match Monday night as it defeated NESCAC rival Tufts University on the road, 8-1.

The Jeffs remain unbeaten during the spring season and improved to 10-1 overall on the year. With the loss, the Jumbos dropped to 6-6.

Amherst swept doubles play as Vickie Ip '18 and Sue Ghosh '16 took the No. 1 court with a decisive 8-1 win. In No. 2 doubles, Maddy Sung '16 and Jackie Calla '17 claimed an 8-5 win, and Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 earned an 8-6 win in No. 3 doubles.

The Jeffs claimed No. 1-5 singles by a combined scored of 60-20. Ip took No. 1 singles over Alexa Meltzer by scores of 6-2, 6-0, Ghosh took No. 2 singles with wins of 6-3, 6-0 against Conner Calabro, and Calla defeated Lauren Louks in the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-2 to round out the top of the lineup.

In No. 4 singles, Monteagudo claimed wins of 6-2, 6-1 to beat Jacqueline Braum, and Megan Adamo '17 earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory versus Chelsea Hayashi.

The Jeffs return to the court Saturday, April 18 and will head to Williams for a 1 p.m. contest against their arch rival.
