No. 3 Jeffs Edge No. 10 Bowdoin, 5-4

AMHERST, Mass. – The third-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team edged No. 10 Bowdoin College, 5-4 in its first outdoor home match of the season Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Amherst improves to 9-1 overall, 3-0 in NESCAC action, while Bowdoin moves to 8-3 on the season, 3-1 in league play.

Amherst held a 2-1 lead after doubles as Vickie Ip '18 and Sue Ghosh '16 were victorious, 8-4 on the No. 1 court. After Bowdoin won on the second court, the Jeffs' Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 notched an 8-4 win to give the Purple & White the 2-1 lead.

In singles action, Ip secured a 6-4, 6-2 win on court No. 1, while Jacqueline Calla '17 earned a 6-2, 6-1 win from the third position. On court No. 4, Monteagudo won a three-set match, 6-0, 6-7, 6-1 to highlight Amherst's victory over the Polar Bears.

Amherst is scheduled to return to NESCAC action at Tufts University Monday, April 13, at 4 p.m.
