Women's Tennis Downs No. 34 Trinity, 8-1

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The fourth-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team swept singles play Tuesday night en route to an 8-1 win over NESCAC rival and No. 34 Trinity College inside Mt. Holyoke College.

With the win, the Jeffs improve to 8-1 overall on the season and drop the Bantams to 3-5.

The Purple & White were edged in No. 1 doubles, 8-6, but responded with 8-0 and 8-1 wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Maddy Sung '16 and Jackie Calla '17 took the No. 2 court, while Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 claimed the No. 3 spot.

Vickie Ip '18, Sue Ghosh '16 and Calla claimed the top three spots in singles play. Ip won No. 1 singles over Melita Ferjanic by scores of 6-4, 6-1, Ghosh claimed the No. 2 court with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory against Morgan Feldman, and Calla won both sets 6-2 in No. 3 singles over Vanja Babunski.

Monteagudo, Megan Adamo '17 and Claire Carpenter '17 took No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively as they outscored their opponents 36-2.

Amherst is scheduled to return to the court Saturday, April 11 to host Bowdoin at 10 a.m.
