WALTHAM, Mass. - The No. 4 Amherst College women's tennis team improved its winning streak to six matches as the Jeffs swept past No. 21 Babson College, 9-0 at the Gosman Center on Friday afternoon.
With the win, Amherst improves to 6-1 on the season, while Babson moves to 15-5 overall. The sweep is the first of the season for the Jeffs.
Amherst swept doubles action as the tandems of Vickie Ip '18 and Sue Ghosh '16, and Maddy Sung '16 and Jacqueline Calla '17 each posted 8-1 wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 played their opponents to an 8-4 win on the No. 3 doubles court to give the Jeffs a 3-0 lead in the contest.
The Purple & White also swept singles play as Amherst won in straight sets on all six courts. Ip posted scores of 6-3 and 6-1 on the No. 1 court; Ghosh won 6-0, 6-1 on the No. 2 court; Calla earned a 6-2, 6-1 win from the No. 3 court; Monteagudo won 6-1, 6-4 on the No. 4 court; Megan Adamo '17 triumphed, 6-4, 6-3 on the No. 5 court; and Claire Carpenter '17 was victorious by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 from the No. 6 position.
Amherst returns to action Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at Brandeis University.
