Jeffs Down Vassar, 8-1

IRVINE, Calif. – The fourth-ranked Amherst College women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over No. 30 Vassar College on Friday in Irvine, Calif.

With the win, Amherst completes its west coast trip 4-0 and improves to 4-1 on the season, while Vassar moves to 4-4 overall.

Amherst led 2-1 after doubles as Maddy Sung '16 and Jacqueline Calla '17 defeated Emily Hallewll and Winnie Yeates, 8-2 from the No. 2 court, while Rebecca L. Pol '16 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 bested Kate Christensen and Morgan Fitzgerald, 8-2 from the No. 3 court.

The Jeffs then swept Vassar in singles competition. Vickie Ip '16 downed Christensen, 6-2, 6-1 from the No. 1 court; Sue Ghosh '16 defeated Ava Sadeghi, 6-3, 6-1 from the No. 2 court; and Simone Aisiks '17 downed Hallewell, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-2 from the No. 3 court.

In the fourth position, Calla posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Yeates, Monteagudo defeated Fitzgerald, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) from the No. 5 court, and Megan Adamo '17 ousted Shayna Becker, 6-2, 6-1 from the No. 6 slot.

Amherst returns to action on Sunday, March 29 when it travels to NESCAC rival Colby College for a 10 a.m. match.
