CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 4 Amherst College women's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer on Monday in Claremont, Calif.
With the win, Amherst improves to 1-1 on the season, while Pomona-Pitzer moves to 5-3 overall.
In doubles action, Vickie Ip '18 and Sue Ghosh '16 defeated Lynn Yen and Grace Hruska, 9-8 (7-3), while Simone Aisiks '17 and Megan Adamo '17 and bested Shivani Doraiswami and Emily Chen, 9-8 (7-4). Rebecca Pol '16 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 completed the doubles sweep for Amherst with an 8-6 victory over Maddie Gordon and Maryann Zhao to give the Jeffs a 3-0 lead in the contest.
Emily Kuo defeated Adamo on the No. 6 court, 6-0, 6-3 to make it 3-1 in the contest, but Monteagudo downed Chen (6-2, 6-3) on the No. 5 court to make it 4-1. Ip then clinched the win the Purple & White with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Lea Lynn Yen on the No. 1 court. Ghosh added a win over Doraiswami (6-2, 7-5) from the No. 2 court, while Pomona-Pitzer's Zhao and Hruska picked up victories on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts respectively. Zhao defeated Aisiks in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, while Hruska defeated Jacqueline Calla '17.
Amherst is back in action on Tuesday, March 17 when it takes on NCAA Division I University of Connecticut in San Clemente, Calif.
