Jeffs Shut Out No. 10 Middlebury, 9-0

AMHERST, Mass. – Extending its win streak to seven matches, the fourth-ranked Amherst women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 9-0 sweep of No. 10 Middlebury College.

Improving to 16-3 (8-0 NESCAC) on the year, the Jeffs return to action on May 2-4 for the 2014 NESCAC Championships hosted by Bowdoin.

Headlining the Purple & White's doubles lineup, Jordan Brewer '14 and Gabby Devlin '14 made quick work of Kaysee Orozco '17 and Ria Gerger '16, 8-2. Notching an 8-3 second doubles victory, Jen Newman '14 and Zoe Pangalos '14 turned away Lily Bondy '17 and Alexandra Fields '17, while Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 earned an 8-2 decision over Dorrie Paradies '14 and Katie Paradies '15.

Dropping just one game in her first singles match with Gerger, Brewer cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Playing in the day's only three-set match, Devlin outlasted Fields, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (3), 10-5. Newman downed Orozco in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, while Sue Ghosh '16 handled Bondy, 6-2, 7-6 (8) in the fourth slot.

At fifth singles, Pangalos secured a 6-2, 7-5 win over Dorrie Paradies, while Monteagudo held wrapped up the Jeffs' singles order with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Katie Paradies.
