No. 4 Amherst Defeats No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-3

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The fourth-ranked Amherst women's tennis team defeated fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday, 6-3.
 
The Jeffs snapped the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps three match winning streak as they improved to 4-2. They took the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. The senior dynamic duo of Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin won from the top spot, 9-7. Safi Aly '15 and Sarah Monteagudo '16 earned another close match from No. 3 doubles with a score of 8-6.
 
Amherst won two matches from the top of the order. Devlin claimed her match from the No. 2 court. After falling 6-3 in the first set, she retaliated nicely with wins of 6-0 and 6-3. Jen Newman '14 took No. 3 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-3.
 
Sue Ghosh '16 and Monteagudo won in No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively. After falling 6-2 in set won, Ghosh took sets two (6-3) and three (6-2) to claim the win. Monteagudo cruised to victory with wins of 6-3 and 6-0.
 
The Jeffs return to the court Mar. 22 for a 9:30 a.m. ET game against Whittier.
